Why We Do It

Our puffed rice snacks are more than a treat—they’re a connection to culture, family, and home.
As someone who grew up in Hawai‘i with a Japanese background, I wanted to create a version of okoshi that celebrated both my heritage and the flavors I love.
We continue this business not just to make something delicious, but to bring joy to our customers and carry on a tradition that means the world to us.

2009 - From Kitchen To Concept

From Kitchen to Concept What started as a family recipe passed from my grandma to my mom became the foundation for Huff n Puff. No labs. No gimmicks. Just flavor that runs deep.

"Huff n Puff is Named Inspired by The Three Little Pigs, and driven by the motto “It’ll blow your taste buds away,” the brand is born. The dragonfly logo? Inspired by a play aunty watched called ""On Dragonfly Wings"" by Lisa Matsumoto."

2016

Branen Yamamoto takes over Huff n Puff from his mom, with the help of his family. From cooking to foot sealing, every bag was made by hand — packed with hustle, heart, and a whole lot of puffed rice.

Our First Pop-Up We packed up our snacks, set up our table, and brought the crunch to the streets. Our first pop-up event was exciting— real faces, real feedback, and real-time crunch reactions. We even sold out (and took it as a sign to keep going).

Our First Festival + TV Debut We made our public debut at the Made in Hawaii Festival in 2017 — bags packed, ready to represent. That same year, we landed our first feature on KHON News. The message? Huff n Puff was here to blow your taste buds away — and we meant it.

First Retail Partner: Menehune Mac. The iconic Menehune Mac. Getting on their shelves in 2017 was the moment Huff n Puff officially went from home kitchen hustle to real-deal snack brand. Shoutout to the OGs who believed in our crunch early on.

2021

After years of hustle, we purchased our own facility and expanded our team. No more shared kitchens. No more bouncing between spaces. Just a place of our own to grow, cook, seal, and dream even bigger.
